How long have you been growing tea and what got your started?
21 years. It is a family tradition. My mother also picked tea and this is all I have known growing up.
What is your favorite part of growing tea?
We pick tea from 8 am - 4 pm with a lunch break in the middle and 2 tea breaks in the middle. After 4 pm, I relax with family and friends, play games, etc.
Can you describe a typical day out in the field?
Growing tea in the mountains is also a trekking exercise and it is like a workout, mentally and physically, both. Finally, after so much of hiking and careful picking, when we get to taste the cup of tea that we have picked and later processed, the joy is unparalleled. The tea plant is a temple for me. I give it the due respect and love as a result.
What do you think makes your tea unique or better than others?
This is a nice, light, clonal floral first flush tea. It is an early picking and it has undergone a light hand-roll as well, giving it a slightly different texture to the usual wiry picking.
Are there any tips you can give on how to best brew your tea?
Don't follow the tea experts online, for starters. It is all just a marketing gimmick. Tea brewing is as simple as: Keep brewing in a glass pot until you like the colour of the cup. As soon as the cup is of the colour that you like, stop brewing. 99.9% of times, this formula works. Oh, and before I forget, don't use flaming hot water. A bit less hot than piping hot.
